About the UM/Mayo Clinic Education Collaboration

Program Vision

The vision of the UM/Mayo Clinic Education Collaboration Agreement is to promote academic collaboration that will nurture and sustain educational initiatives while recognizing the continued commitment of both institutions to high educational standards.

Program Background

The Memorandum of Understanding for Education Collaboration was signed by Robert Bruininks, Ph.D, President of the University of Minnesota, and Glenn Forbes, M.D., Chief Executive Officer of Mayo Clinic Rochester, on November 4, 2008. The document lays the groundwork for planning and implementing effective collaborative education programs to serve the needs of the region and state of Minnesota with the belief that their respective expertise and mutual interest in health professional education present unique opportunities for educational collaboration. The agreement provides a framework to evaluate potential areas of collaboration and establishes certain rights and obligations between the parties during such evaluation.   The document addresses the process to be used in collaborative program initiation and coordination.
