College age students are at higher risk for contracting H1N1. The virus is highly transmissible, so students living in close contact such as in apartments or shared homes are more likely to be exposed and potentially contract H1N1. Black Data Processing Associates (BDPA) Southern Minnesota Chapter won for the third year in a row at the National High School Computer Competition that was held in Raleigh, North Carolina from August 4th thru August 8th. The team competed against 22 other teams from much larger cities across the nation including Chicago, Los Angeles, Detroit and New York. The Southern Minnesota team, now having won the last four out of the five years, ranged in age from 14-18 and included students throughout the Rochester area school district. This year's championship team included: James Arama, Yaa Kwansa, Ahmed Mahamad, Daniel Sheppard, and Adwait Walimbe. One of the students, Ahmed Mahamad, is enrolled in UMR's Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences (BSHS) baccalaureate degree program this Fall. Congratulations to the team! A portion of South Broadway in downtown Rochester was closed Saturday morning as the University of Minnesota Rochester installed an air-purifying unit on the roof of University Square. A crane was placed on South Broadway next to University Square and work was completed around 10:30 a.m. The unit installed measures around 30 feet by 8 feet.
