2nd Annual BICB Industry Symposium
PRECISION AGRICULTURE AND MEDICINE: FROM DATA TO KNOWLEDGE
August 21, 2014 | 9:30 AM - 4:15 PM
University of Minnesota (East Bank) | LOCATION CHANGE: Northrop Memorial Auditorium
The BICB program at the University of Minnesota Rochester is announcing the second annual Bioinformatics Industry Symposium to be held on August 21, 2014 in the Northrop Memorial Auditorium on the East Bank of the University Minnesota.
As a complement to the long-standing BICB Research Symposium, the BICB Industry Symposium will focus on the use of bioinformatics toward marketplace application. Plenary and poster presentations will include topics on individualized medicine, major disease characterization, genetic engineering of crops and livestock, and strategic applications of bioinformatics to “big data” challenges in medical technology and agricultural sciences.
The symposium will also offer breakout sessions in three key areas: curriculum, infrastructure, and research.
The goals of this Symposium are to provide background on the nature and application of bioinformatics and to provide a forum for discussion and networking on potential future collaboration opportunities between BICB and industry. Additional conference information is updated as it becomes available and can be found here >>
The BICB program began in 2007 as an inter-disciplinary research program administered out of the University of Minnesota Rochester. The BICB graduate program began in 2008. It currently has 61 graduate students (23 PhD and 37 MS students) and nearly 70 faculty members spread across the University’s Twin Cities and Rochester campuses, as well as its partners the Brain Sciences Center, Cray Inc., The Hormel Institute, IBM, Mayo Clinic, and National Marrow Donor Program. Transportation from Rochester will be provided.
