BICB Research Symposium Information

The University of Minnesota Rochester Biomedical Informatics and Computational Biology (BICB) Program will be holding a Research Symposium on Friday, June 25, 2010 in Rochester, MN.  The purpose of this event is to bring together teams of scientists, administrators, and students from the University of Minnesota Twin Cities (UMTC), the University of Minnesota Rochester (UMR), the Hormel Institute, the Mayo Clinic, and IBM, as well as other researchers working in the field of biomedical informatics and computational biology. The scope of this event is to facilitate further collaborations in the area of biomedical informatics and computational biology.

The morning session of the BICB Research Symposium will cover a brief update of the BICB Program.  There will be a keynote presentation on fostering innovation and business development given by Jean-Pierre Kocher, Mayo Clinic, followed by two research presentations by Yuan-Ping Pang, Mayo Clinic, and Brian Van Ness, University of Minnesota.

Over the noon hour, lunch will be provided and participants will be given the opportunity to review displays provided by institutions/centers that are involved in BICB related activities.

The afternoon session will feature scientific presentations from two BICB graduate students, Joshua Baller and Susan Van Riper, as well as a panel discussion on “Fostering Innovation and Entrepreneurship in the Biosciences” focusing on the impact BICB can have on economic development in Southeastern Minnesota and the entire state.
