Admission Information

M.B.A. applicants must be admitted to the University of Minnesota Graduate School prior to enrolling in M.B.A. courses. To be admitted, applicants must present evidence of having:

• Earned a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent from a regionally accredited college or university, and
• Achieved satisfactory performance on one of the following general predictors of readiness for graduate work:
  • Completion of a graduate degree from a regionally or nationally accredited college or university
  • The Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) – within the past 5 years
  • Passing of the Certified Professional Accountant (CPA) exam

Generally, the criteria for admission to the M.B.A. program are:

• An overall GPA or graduate degree GPA of at least 3.0 (on a 4-point scale)
• An overall GMAT score at the 50th percentile or above (approximately 530-540) and a score at the 25th percentile or above on the verbal and quantitative sections; and a score at the 50th percentile or above on the analytical writing analysis sections of the GMAT within the past five years
• For international students, a TOEFL score of at least 79 on the Internet-based TOEFL with section scores of 21 on writing and 19 on reading (213 on the computer-based TOEFL, 550 on the paper based TOEFL).
• Completion of formal education in Foundation Group A topics.

Performances on the above criteria, as well as the number of years of full-time work experience, professional goals, and completion of formal education in foundation areas, are considered and balanced as part of the admission decision. Strong credentials in other areas may balance failure to meet preferred levels in one specific area.

Deadlines

Students may be admitted and begin M.B.A. classes at the start of each semester, in early September or mid-January, or at the start of summer session in May/June. A completed online application which includes official transcripts from ALL institutions attended, GMAT score, and other materials (e.g., TOEFL scores for international students, certification verifications, etc.) must be received by:

• July 15 – For the September start of fall semester
• November 1 – For the January start of spring semester
• March 15 – For the start of summer session
