Application Criteria
Admission to the PSEO Program is competitive and applications are required. Space is limited in PSEO course offerings, and admission to the program does not guarantee registration. Admission to the PSEO program is based on multiple factors related to your readiness for college. These factors include:
- Strong GPA – minimum 3.0
- Class rank, if applicable - for Juniors, top quarter of their class. For Seniors, top half of their class. Students from non-ranking schools will be given full consideration.
- Successful completion of rigorous coursework (AP, honors, college prep, etc) where available
- High performace in math, science, and writing coursework
- Additional test scores (PSAT/SAT/PLAN/ACT)- recommended for all students, required for students who have been homeschooled for one year or more or whose high school issues narrative-only transcripts
- Readiness for college
- Application essay
- Evidence of a strong desire to work in the field of health sciences
Application Deadlines
- April 15th for Fall enrollment.
- Applications may be considered on a rolling basis through June 1st if space permits.
- UMR does not accept applications for Spring PSEO enrollment.
Application Materials
- UMR PSEO Application - Complete the University of Minnesota Rochester PSEO Application.
- Transcript - Provide an official high school transcript (sealed and stamped) with your GPA and class rank if applicable.
- PSEO Notice of Student Registration - Complete the PSEO Notice of Student Registration form. Part 1 of this form is completed by you. Part 2 is completed by your school. Part 3 will be completed by the University of Minnesota Rochester.
- Credit Balance Sheet - Have your school counselor complete the Credit Balance Sheet.
- Standardized Test Scores - Provide an unofficial score report for the ACT, PSAT, SAT if applicable. Standardized test scores are recommended for all students, but are required for applicants who have been homeschooled for at least one year, or for applicants with narrative-type transcripts. Provide MELAB /TOEFL scores if you are a non-native English language speaker who has been in the country for fewer than five years.
- Application Essay - Applicants must submit a typed essay (approximately 300 to 500 words) on one of the options listed below. The application essay provides an opportunity for the Admissions Office to become acquainted with the student as a person and a student, apart from courses, grades, test scores, and other objective data. It will also demonstrate the student’s ability to organize thoughts and express themselves.
- Option A: Describe a person or experience that influenced your decision to pursue an education in health sciences.
- Option B: Describe the qualities you possess that will help you be successful as a student and a professional in the field of health sciences.
Application Process
Compile the above documents (UMR PSEO application, transcript, Notice of Student Registration form, Credit Balance Sheet, appropriate test scores, and application essay) into one envelope. Submit your completed application materials to:
