The BSHP is a junior-admitting, full-time clinical program. Students can complete liberal education and prerequisite courses at the University of Minnesota Rochester, other University of Minnesota campuses, MnSCU institutions or other regionally accredited universities and colleges. University of Minnesota liberal education and theme requirements must be complete prior to starting the program. In addition, the following prerequisites must be completed or in progress before application to the program: English Composition, College Algebra, Statistics, General Psychology, Ethics or Bioethics, Public Speaking, Medical Terminology, General Chemistry, Anatomy (Human) and Physiology (Human) I and II, Microbiology with lab and Physics with lab. Transfer guides are available to assist students and academic advisers in selecting the appropriate courses. These guides can be found on the Prerequisite Coursework link below.

The Echocardiography Track requires Certified Nursing Assistant (C.N.A.) training and licensure. The CNA license is earned after taking a national certification exam. The license does not need to be current. Other certified/licensed/registered medical professionals may also meet this requirement. Direct patient care experience (Patient Care Assistant or P.C.A.) is recommended and can strengthen an application.
