At UMR we understand the process of applying to and selecting a college can be overwhelming. We hope this checklist will help!
Application Checklist
- Complete the Application for Admission. Your application file, which includes this application and all application required materials, must be complete before a decision can be made.
- Make check payable to the University of Minnesota Rochester for the $35 nonrefundable application fee ($30 for online application).
- Complete the Application Essay. The Application Essay helps us become acquainted with you as a person and a student, apart from courses, grades, test scores, and other objective data. It will also demonstrate your ability to organize your thoughts and to express yourself. Submit a typed essay (approximately 250 to 750 words) addressing one of the options listed below.
Option A: Describe a person or experience that influenced your decision to pursue an education in health sciences.
Option B: Describe the qualities you possess that will help you be successful as a student and a professional in the field of health sciences.
- Teacher Evaluation and/or letter of recommendation (optional). The University of Minnesota Rochester strongly recommends, but does not require, the submission of a letter of recommendation and/or a Teacher Evaluation to complete the student application.
Are you a transfer applicant?
- If you have completed less than 30 transferable credits of college coursework, provide a copy of your official high school transcript with high school rank (if applicable), and an official copy of your ACT and/or SAT scores.
- Priority Dates for transfer students:
- Spring Admission- November 1
- Fall Admission- May 1
Are you a first-year applicant? If so, you must also:
- Complete the required Secondary School Report. Provide an official copy of your high school transcripts with high school rank, if applicable.
- If you have enrolled in coursework for college credit, an official transcript from each college is required.
- If you have received a General Equivalency Diploma (GED), an official score report is required in addition to any available high school transcripts.
- If you were a home-schooled student, please submit a listing of subjects studied and grades obtained (if applicable).
- Submit an official score report of your ACT, including writing portion, and/or SAT Reasoning scores. The scores need not be sent separately if they appear on your official high school transcript. The University of Minnesota Rochester's ACT code is 2154 and the SAT code is 5877.
- Priority date for first-year students
- Fall Admission- December 15
Check It Off: Admissions Timeline for UMR-Bound High School Seniors
It's easy to get lost in the sometimes hectic college application process. That's why we've created this helpful timeline to smooth the transition from high school to life at the University of Minnesota Rochester.
Fall:
- Apply for admission to the BSHS program at UMR. (The deadline for priority applicants is December 15.)
- Register to take any necessary entrance exams and have your scores sent to UMR at ACT code 2154 and/or SAT code 5877.
- Ask for letters of recommendation from reliable contacts who are familiar with your goals and accomplishments.
- Research scholarships and other opportunities for financial assistance.
- Attend a Campus Visit Day
Winter:
Spring:
- Schedule a campus visit and begin making a list of questions to ask a UMR admissions representative.
- Attend a VIP Day for Admitted Students. (Invitations are sent to accepted students in February.)
- Submit $200 enrollment deposit.
Summer:
- Attend Orientation and Registration
- Accept financial aid award package.
- Attend the UMR Welcome Experience.
- Start your college career at UMR!
* Beginning with students who apply for fall 2015 admission, four years of math will be required for all applicants.
Non-Native English speakers may be asked and required to take the internet-based TOEFL exam (iBT). These students must report a score in all four areas of the exam: writing, listening, reading and speaking. Non-Native English speakers must score a total of 80 on the iBT; students must also score a 20 or higher on the speaking section of the exam. The iBT is offered at 4,500 testing centers around the globe; for testing sites, please visit: www.ets.org/toefl.
