M – F between the hours of 8:30 am and 3:00 pm, hours are flexible

Program Description

PossAbilities employment program supports individuals with disabilities in meaningful employment.  The Employment Intern provides support and assistance to consumers as they work on in-center and community-based jobs enhancing the quality of their work life.  Assistance is provided in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines and regulations governing the agency, and as directed by the Program Coordinator.

Experience/Education Requirements:
  • Must be a high school graduate or equivalent
  • Must be able to read, write, and understand the English language
  • Must have patience, tact, cheerful disposition and enthusiasm, as well as enjoy working with individuals with disabilities and possess the ability to work well with the consumers.
  • Must possess the ability to work productively and positively with all staff.
  • Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with staff, consumers, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel and the general public.
  • Maintains neat, well-groomed appearance.
Job Duties
  • Assist consumers in achievement of their personal program goals.
  • Assist and support consumers in increasing independence in their work environment.
  • Promote and ensure the health and safety of each consumer in the program.
  • Oversee program implantation; be a positive, professional role model.
  • Develop and maintain positive communication and working relationship between consumers, parents, families, consultants, other service agencies, employers and co-workers.
  • Implement Individual Abuse Prevention Plans for consumers and ensure the health and safety of each consumer in the program.
  • Assist with toileting, feeding and other personal needs of consumers.
  • Attend team meetings, in-service sessions and other agency meetings/outings as required.
  • Assist in maintaining agency compliance with applicable federal and state regulations.
  • Comply with agency rules.
  • Ensure that consumer rights are upheld.
  • Work to meet the goals of the agency with enthusiasm and a spirit of cooperation.
