Program Description

The Rochester Public Library provides the community with access to information, literature, and ideas.

Experience/Education Requirements

No experience or specific education is required.  Previous experience in a library or similar setting is an asset as well as familiarity with organizational systems.

Job Duties

The Rochester Public Library seeks work study eligible students for opportunities in our Reference and Circulation divisions.  Students will:  assist library patrons, shelve materials, and organize materials.  The job may include assisting patrons in operating devices such as:  Microfilm Readers, photocopiers, self-service check out machines, and automated materials handling kiosks.

The jobs entail a combination of customer service work and detailed work, lifting materials onto high and low shelves, working independently and some repetitive tasks.  Accuracy is paramount and ability to follow directions is also important.  The Library has Customer Services Standards that must be met.  Knowledge of organizational systems such as the Dewey decimal system is a plus.
