Duties/Responsibilities
- Develop a personal relationship with each student in assigned community. Be attentive to student attitudes, academics, problems, and relationships with others.
- Lead individual and group discussions on academic, personal, and social matters within the limits of training and capability. Make referrals as appropriate.
- Be available to residents.
- Ensure that all residents are aware of and comply with the Student Code of Conduct and University rules and regulations, including fire and safety precautions. Assist with fire drills and other safety measures.
- Develop an atmosphere of respect for the rights and privileges of others in the living community.
- Develop a cooperative atmosphere in the community by facilitating the Floor Standards Process and by maintaining conditions conducive to academic and personal development. Make students aware of leadership opportunities and encourage their development as leaders.
- Support and assist the Student Activities Board in cooperative programming efforts
- Perform on-call duties periodically as scheduled (evenings, weekends, holidays)
- Complete administrative duties in a timely manner, including forms and reports.
- Assist opening and closing of the residence halls during transition periods (the beginning and end of break periods).
- Be available for Pre-Service training and hall closings.
- Be a supportive team member.
Required Qualifications
- Be a student for a minimum of one semester by employment date
- Have a UMR Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.75 or higher at the time of employment
- Retain a GPA of no less than 2.50 each semester
- Maintain cumulative GPA 2.75 or above.
- Be in good academic and behavioral standing
- Have strong verbal and written communication skills
- Have the ability to interact with residents from a variety of backgrounds
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in Residence Life or Housing
- Previous experience in student leadership positions on campus
- Full-time student status
