CALL 911 and remain calm.

- Stay online with 911 call-taker to answer questions
- Let call-taker guide the conversation
- Follow all directions and ask for clarification if you do not understand
- Do not hang up the call until directed to do so by call-taker
- Send another person to the entrance to guide paramedics to the person.
- Provide first aid only if you are qualified.
- If you are qualified, utilize a first aid kit (found in each classroom, office suite and the Chancellor’s Office) and utilize personal protective equipment in the first aid kit necessary to practice universal precautions.
- DO NOT move the person but try to make them comfortable.
- Do not administer any medications unless the person is carrying them and can give you instructions.
The following conditions are EXAMPLES of when to call 911 immediately:
- Anaphylaxis
- Bleeding that will not stop or Bleeding with weakness (shock)
- Bloody diarrhea with weakness
- Broken bones visible through an open wound
- Chest pain (see heart attack)
- Coma (unresponsive victim)
- Confusion
- Dizziness
- Drug overdose
- Heart attack
- Heat stroke
- Serious Burns
- Shortness of breath
- Sudden slurred speech
- Stroke
- Sudden blindness (see stroke)
- Uncontrolled nosebleed
- Vomiting blood
- Weakness
