Telecommunications

UMR faculty and staff are provided with Voice over IP (VOIP) services through University of Minnesota Office of Information Technology.  Information on using the phones follows.

Phone Features

Initial Voicemail Setup

  • Dial 30000 to access your voicemail (or 507-258-8000 if you are away from campus)
  • A new voicemail password (5-15 digits and different than 5-digit phone number).
  • Your name announcement (e.g.: "John Smith").
  • Your personal greeting announcement (e.g.: "You have reached John Smith. Sorry I missed your call. Leave a message and I'll get right back to you.").

Enter Gopher Messaging

Note: If this is a group mailbox, enter the number of your extension mailbox and press "#."

Note: If this is a group mailbox, use just the 5 digits of the main mailbox number.

 

Change Your Password

Your initial Gopher Messaging password is the same as your 5 digit mailbox number.

Record a Name Announcement

To perform additional mailbox setup such as busy greetings, press "#" at the main menu prompt to change personal options.

Place a Call

On Campus:

  • Dial 5 digit number (Fairview phone numbers only)

 

Off Campus:

  • Dial button 9 + area code + number
     

International:

  • Dial button 9 + button 0 button 1 button 1 + international number

Forward Your Calls

 All calls are forwarded to an alternate number.

  • Lift handset
  • Dial code * 3
  • Hear confirmation tone
  • Dial destination number
  • Hear confirmation tone
  • Hang up

An incoming call rings one short ring, which alerts you that call forward is still active, then forward to the specified destination. The forwarding destination phone number is the only number which can place and transfer calls to the original phone number.
 

Cancel Call Forwarding

  • Lift handset
  • Hear "Forward"
  • Dial code # 3
  • Hear confirmation tone
  • Hang up
     

* Off campus call forwarding feature must be ordered.
