National Student Exchange (NSE), is a study away program, much like study abroad, involving a consortium of U.S. and Canadian colleges and universities, including the University of Minnesota Rochester.
With NSE you can study away for a semester or for a year. NSE locations encompass nearly 200 colleges and universities in the:
NSE gives you an opportunity to experience a different area with its unique cultural and academic opportunities. Since NSE's beginning in 1968, more than 94,000 students have had the opportunity to participate in NSE. Students utilize NSE to:
Many returning students describe NSE as a life-changing experience which has made them more independent, self-confident and resourceful; expanded their risk-taking capabilities; and helped them better define their academic and career objectives. Students who have been on exchange return to their home campus with lasting friendships formed with students from all over the country.
Prior to exchange, you will develop a written agreement to ensure that the work you satisfactorily complete on exchange will count toward your degree program at our campus. NSE operates with tuition reciprocity (tuition paid to our campus or at the in-state rates of the host campus) and federal financial aid portability. Your selection for participation will be done by our campus. Placements at the host campuses are made by that campus on a space available basis. With placement rates of 97 percent, students can generally find a location to meet both their academic and personal objectives.
Think about it. Talk with your parents, advisor or Success Coach, and professors about this exciting opportunity.
If you are interested in applying for an exchange, please stop by my office (345 University Square) to talk and pick up a brochure. Applications for next year’s exchanges are due by February 11, 2011. After that date, many schools still have openings and may place students for an exchange. Contact me for a list of schools that still have openings.
