Headshot of Andy PetzoldUniversity of Minnesota Rochester faculty member Andrew Petzold was recently awarded the Anne Crecelius High Impact Scholar Award. Created last year by the American Physiological Society (APS), the award recognizes high quality of work in physiology education, consistency in effort and commitment to advancing the physiology educator community. Petzold is the inaugural recipient and will collaborate with the APS Center for Physiology Education to complete a large, long-term project and to mentor physiology educators.

Petzold plans to pursue a project focused on creating a primer for educational research with the help of the broader faculty at UMR. “Considering UMR is known for our excellence in educational research, and we're one of the only departments that focus solely on educational research, it seemed like a no-brainer to pursue such an endeavour,” shared Petzold. This primer will include a series of videos focused on aspects of educational research such as the basics that define educational research by looking at data types that can be collected and identifying simple things that can be analyzed. This project will also pursue more complex issues in educational research including mixed methods studies, advanced statistical analysis of educational data, and publishing educational research.
