Authored By: wells438 02/19/2025On Tuesday, February 18, University of Minnesota alumni, faculty, staff and students from all five campuses came together to advocate for the school’s legislative priorities at the Minnesota State Capitol
The rotunda was filled with maroon and gold and the day featured a variety of events and opportunities for the U of M community to engage with local legislators and legislative staff. University of Minnesota Rochester (UMR) students had the chance to meet with Representative Andy Smith and Senator Liz Boldon. They shared personal stories about how the University of Minnesota has shaped their lives and future careers in health care.
Joud Haj Sakor, a third year at UMR spoke before attendees about her experience. “I'm not just attending classes; I'm immersed in cutting-edge research, learning from some of the most brilliant minds in medicine, and working with patients from across the globe as a phlebotomist,” she said. “It's an experience that most undergraduates can only dream of, yet it's my daily reality. All of these experiences are shaping my understanding of the interconnectedness of health and well-being, preparing me to approach patient care with a holistic and compassionate perspective in my future career.”
