Celebrating UMR’s graduating class of 2025! Meet Anthony, a Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences graduate working and shadowing at Mayo Clinic gaining clinic experience, volunteering at the Ronald McDonald House and animal shelter and applying to medical school.
What was your favorite part of your years at UMR?
My favorite part of my journey at UMR was making so many friends and deep relationships with professors and faculty. All of these people were (and continue to be) integral to my success.
What are you most looking forward to post graduation?
I look forward to continuing my learning journey and gaining new patient experience that will ultimately help me become an empathetic and well-rounded physician. I also look forward to helping give advice to current and incoming students, since I plan to stay in Rochester for another 2 years.
What advice would you give incoming students?
As President Theodore Roosevelt once said, "Comparison is the thief of joy." Everyone is on their own journey, and the lengths and direction will vary QUITE a bit. I used comparison as a motivator: I wanted to show everyone that I was capable, and this mindset led to very unhealthy habits. At the end of the day, a grade is a letter. It is the bonds that I developed during my collegiate journey that I treasure with me the most. You are unique and your journey is YOURS. It is not a standard to judge against others.
