New Raptor Orientation

New Raptor Advising & Registration

UMR offers New Raptor Advising & Registration for first-year students during the summer months of June and July. As a step in the Admitted Students Checklist, it is required for all new students to sign up for one of the advising and registration days and visit the campus for fall class registration. Students are welcome to bring along their parents or guardians. 

Apart from the registration process, there will also be informative sessions to cover the following important topics:

Curriculum Advising

• Learn about curriculum and degree requirements for Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences (BSHS) students.
• Meet with a student success coach for advising and registration guidance, review applicable college coursework and AP scores, and determine a class schedule for the fall semester.

One Stop Services and Financial Aid

• Receive information regarding registration, records, financial aid, billing, payment and veterans benefits from One Stop Student Services. 
• One Stop counselors will be available to answer questions. 

Building Community and Prepare for the UMR Experience

• Learn how to best prepare for the academic year.
• Discover and learn about student support and career resources, student activities and additional opportunities for UMR students.
• Meet, connect and network with staff, faculty and other new students and families.
• Prepare for housing.

Parent and Family Coaching

• Attend information sessions to support your student’s transition to college.

Raptor Ready Week

Raptor Ready Week is UMR’s new student orientation program. After move-in weekend, all first-year students are required to participate in Raptor Ready Week consisting of a variety of information sessions and activities. The primary goal of Raptor Ready Week is social engagement and community building with Living Learning Communities to provide knowledge and access to campus resources, and prepare students for the beginning of college.

Transfer students can choose to attend Raptor Ready Week or a one-day transfer student orientation option.

New Student Move-in Weekend: Saturday, August 24 and Sunday, August 25

Raptor Ready Week: Monday, August 26 - Saturday, August 31

First Day of Classes: Tuesday, September 3

Welcome Week 

Welcome Week is during the first week of classes. All new and returning students are encouraged to participate in back-to-campus celebration activities to kick off the new academic year. These activities include Raptor Reconnect and the Campus and Community Involvement Fair to learn more about student clubs, organizations and other opportunities to get involved with the Rochester community. 

Welcome Week activities are announced in UMR weekly student newsletter, the Raptor Report. All new students are automatically subscribed to receive these emails before the first day of classes.
