UMR Ambassadors

Ambassadors are student volunteers with a passion for sharing the UMR story.

UMR Ambassadors provide campus tours to prospective students and their families and assist the Office of Admissions in recruiting students who are passionate about solving the grand health challenges of the 21st century.

Every year the office of Admissions looks for students who are personable, outgoing and excited about UMR.

Why I came to UMR: I chose to be a UMR Raptor, to show visitors the amazing resources that UMR has to offer. I originally came from a very large high school and coming to a small school like UMR, has been eye opening. I want to provide visitors an enjoyable and inside view of UMR, as well as everything it has to offer!

Favorite place to eat in Rochester: Kumo Sushi

Favorite place on campus: My favorite place on campus is the second floor of 318 commons. The place is excellent for studying and hanging out with friends.  

Favorite UMR Memory: Going to the Get In Gear race with the running club! I remember I ran the 10k and how fun it was. I typically don't like to run, but it became one of my favorite hobbies in college.

Why I came to UMR: I chose to be a UMR Raptor because of the homey environment. I loved how comfortable I felt walking into UMR, and having deep and meaningful conversations with some of the people who gave me tours was super comforting. I realized that UMR was my dream school and my second home because of the natural and inviting conversations and environments I was in.

Favorite UMR Memory: I think my favorite UMR memory had to have been one of the first I had coming into UMR. Either the halloween dance, the amazing field trips we went on, bridge week, or any of those were my favorite because it was such a surreal moment meeting my future friends and reinventing myself.

Why do you choose UMR: It's quite a long story, but the simple answer is UMR allowed me the freedom and support to explore the world of medicine and humanities, as well as myself, in a nuanced, integrative and holistic manner.

Why do you choose UMR: I choose UMR because it is close to home, a nursing program that is partnered with Mayo and a small teacher to student ratio. I am a name not a number here.

Favorite UMR memory: My favorite UMR memory was being an Owl Orientation Leader. It was exciting to connect with new students, enjoy good free food and participate in fun activities.

Why do you choose UMR: I loved the size of UMR and the ability to make meaningful relationships with both my peers and my professors. Additionally, I thought that being right in downtown Rochester and surrounded by Mayo Clinic was exciting as I knew I would be surrounded by others who had similar passions to me.

Why do you choose UMR: I liked the small campus that is healthcare focused with various opportunities to become involved in the community.

Favorite UMR memory: I enjoyed taking part in the EMT volunteer program set up last spring semester, an extension of twin cities EMT volunteer, we were able to volunteer at the spring graduation. It felt great to be a part of something new implemented at UMR.

Why do you choose UMR: The main reasons I choose UMR would be the vast opportunities down here with its close connections to Mayo Clinic, having a smaller school environment and UMR felt like home to me since the day I toured it when I was a junior in high school.

Why do you choose UMR: I chose UMR because I wanted to be surrounded by people that share the same passions as me. I also knew that I would have ample opportunities to do research and be involved on campus and in the Rochester community.

Favorite UMR memory: Attending PreMed Insights every month at Mayo Alix School of Medicine and being able to connect with my mentor, who is a current medical student. PreMed Insights has taught me a lot about the application process for medical school, studying for the MCAT, what to expect during the interviews and how to prepare.

Why do you choose UMR: The small class sizes drew me along with its close location to Mayo. My personal favorite thing and what cinched it for me were the large amount of JustAsk spaces and how friendly the faculty were!

Favorite place on campus: Room 160 at One Discovery Square(ODS)

Favorite UMR memory: Goodness, there's a lot. One would be a friends' potluck Halloween first year, another would be the joy of finishing finals for second year and all of us going out for lunch/dinner at Huhot, and one from this year is Werewolf nights with RGG, especially when they had to all be silent and mime accusations and defenses out!

Why do you choose UMR: I chose UMR for its proximity to Mayo Clinic, the programs offered, but also because I really wanted the experience of a new environment. I am so glad I did!

Why do you choose UMR: The opportunities at Mayo Clinic and the BSHP program for sonography technology make UMR eye opening. This is also a small campus, so everybody knows each other and there is a lot of connections you can make.
