University of Minnesota Rochester Signs Okanagan Charter
On Thursday April 23, University of Minnesota Rochester Chancellor Lori Carrell signed the Okanagan Charter, a global call to action for higher education institutions to embed well-being across campus culture and operations.
Adopting this charter reflects a clear commitment to supporting the well‑being of the University of Minnesota Rocehster community and the environment. It provides a framework for moving forward and calls on the University to take two key actions: embed health into all aspects of campus culture, including administration, operations, and academics and lead health promotion efforts both locally and globally.
“Here in America’s City for Health, this commitment to the health of people and the planet resonates strongly - for UMR, health in the built environment means our new facilities will reflect cutting-edge sustainable building practices,” shared Chancellor Carrell at the signing event.
This commitment is already in motion across all five University of Minnesota campuses through the strategic roadmap, Elevate Extraordinary 2030—expanding mental health support, addressing food insecurity, and creating learning environments where students can truly thrive.
