COVID-19 has generated significant challenges for students attempting to take the ACT/SAT and other standardized tests. These challenges are especially severe for low-income, first generation and students of color. Because of the current situation prospective students applying to the University of Minnesota Rochester for the 2022 application cycle can decide whether to submit standardized test scores as part of their applications.

“Care for students is a top priority for this innovative campus. We want to do all that we can to support incoming students whose high school experience has been disrupted by this public health crisis,” said UMR’s chancellor Lori Carrell.

UMR prides itself on reviewing applicants holistically and admits students with a true passion for a career in health care who are academically ready for the rigor of UMR. Applicants who decide against submitting standardized test scores will not be at a disadvantage in the application review process.

UMR’s review factors will continue to include the student’s passion to make a difference in the world through a career in health, strong academic performance in high school and rigor of course selection in high school.

“We recognize the college application process can be overwhelming. Our dedicated Admissions staff will be available to work with students during this upcoming academic year to help make the application process as smooth as possible,” says Brett Hartnagel, director of admissions at UMR.
