The University of Minnesota Rochester (UMR) is excited to offer an Early Assurance Respiratory Care Program in educational collaboration with Mayo Clinic School of Health Sciences (MCSHS) for students interested in pursuing a future career as a respiratory therapist. Director of Admissions, Brett Hartnagel shares, “Respiratory therapists are essential to any health care team and play a critical role in our health care system, especially now during this pandemic. We are excited to have this collaborative program with MCSHS expand to incoming freshmen."
Students selected for the Early Assurance Respiratory Care option will complete all four years of their collegiate experience at UMR with their final two years of coursework mainly on the Mayo Clinic campus completing upper level coursework, labs and clinical hours. “The Respiratory Care program provides exposure to a much more broad and complex care setting than can be found at any other regional program. As a student, you’re guaranteed a high-quality and exciting education that’s tailored specifically for the challenges you’ll experience when you join the workforce,” said Respiratory Care Program Director Vanessa King.
Students who complete this program will receive a bachelor’s degree from UMR and a certificate in Respiratory Care from MCSHS.
Interested students should apply to the Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences (BSHS) program during their senior year of high school by December 1. Student’s must maintain a GPA of at least a 2.75 while completing their prerequisite coursework during their first two years at UMR prior to starting the Respiratory Care program.
