eMERGing Leaders MERG Mentorship Program

eMERGing Leaders MERG is a part of Mayo Clinic's Employee Resource Groups (MERGs). These groups celebrate, support and encourage diversity among employees.

Members of the Mayo Clinic Employee Resource Group (MERG), eMERGing Leaders, partner with UMR Career Development to provide an opportunity for current UMR students to participate in a mentorship experience with a Mayo Clinic professional. 

 

Overview 

The eMERGing Leaders MERG Mentorship Program offers an opportunity for one-on-one mentorship that is tailored to the UMR student’s individual needs and also offers virtual group professional development sessions. The mentoring relationships will foster career and professional development, career competency and skills development, networking, and interpersonal relationships. 

Mayo Clinic’s MERG’s celebrate, support, and encourage diversity among Mayo Clinic employees. eMERGing Leaders is a group of individuals from all areas of Mayo Clinic that are interested in connecting and giving back to the Rochester community. 


Program Calendar

The eMERGing Leaders MERG Mentorship Program runs one academic calendar year beginning in the fall. There are three mandatory virtual sessions from 2:30-3:30 p.m. Match pairs are expected to meet for a minimum of four times throughout the program experience.

Key dates are:

    • September 25 – Program application deadline
    • Late September/Early October – Matching Process
    • October 3 – Orientation Session
    • November through January – Two 1:1 Virtual Connects between matches
    • January 23 – Mid-Program Session
    • February through April – Two 1:1 Virtual Connects between matches
    • April 16 – Closing Session

Participants 

Student Mentees: All UMR students are welcome to apply. Students need to recognize the relationship is about personal and professional development, and this experience does not guarantee shadowing opportunities. Students should be available, accessible and respect confidences exchanged in the relationship.

Mentors  Mayo Clinic Professionals who are members of the eMERGing Leaders MERG group: Members of the eMERGing Leaders MERG group are welcome to apply. Mentors will work with student mentees on personal and professional development. This experience does not guarantee shadowing opportunities. Mentors should be available and accessible and respect confidences exchanged in the relationship.

How to Participate

    • Step 1 – Complete eMERGing Leaders MERG Mentorship Program application (for students).
    • Step 2 – Watch your University email for information related to program acceptance.

Approximately 20-50 students participate each year.
