About Confidential Counseling


Confidentiality of student information is essential in Counseling Services and will not be disclosed or appear in any of your academic transcripts or records. Counseling Services is exempt from University requirements for mandated reporting for sexual harassment or harassment based on race, sexual orientation or religion. Thus, Counseling Services offers  a confidential space to explore these issues. 

Counseling Services follows laws and ethics limiting what information can and cannot be shared outside of your counseling session. No information can be shared about you outside of Counseling Services with a few exceptions where safety is of concern. Our licensed counselors are obligated to protect life and the public’s safety by acting as mandated reporters when necessary. See below for examples of exceptions to confidentiality. 

    • Reason to believe a person is planning harm to themselves, harm to others, or harm to property or the public; 
    • Any verbal reports of children or vulnerable adults who are being abused, neglected, molested or threatened.
