2SLGBTQIA+ Resources
Gender and Sexuality Alliance Rochester (GSAR)
GSAR was established to open a dialogue for 2SLGBTQIA+ people at UMR, create and foster a community for queer folk, and spread awareness about 2SLGBTQIA+ issues at UMR and in the broader Rochester community. The organization has been designed to both advocacy group and act as a support system for those struggling with either the sexual orientation or gender identity. All are welcome to learn more about this community and become part of it.
UMR Counseling Services
Counseling Services embraces and has experience with diverse populations and are dedicated to providing high-quality support and counseling services. Counselors help students learn ways to cope and manage mental and emotional challenges.
UMR General Concern/Incident/Hate/Bias Form
The purpose of the UMR General Concern/Incident/Hate/Bias Form is to monitor the occurrence of hate/bias incidents both on and off campus.
A hate/bias incident is any non-criminal act motivated, in whole or in part, by the victim's actual or perceived racial/ethnic identity, gender identity/expression, sexual orientation, political affiliation, religion, social class, immigrant background, disability, veteran status or age.
Rochester PRIDE
The mission of Rochester Pride is to “provide Pride events for the gender-identity and sexual-orientation minority communities and their allies; that inspire, educate, commemorate and celebrate our diverse community; in order to promote an environment for advocacy, outreach, inclusion, and equity for gender-identity and sexual-orientation minorities.”
2SLGBTQIA+ Affinity Group
This group is designed to offer a safe space for 2SLGBTQIA+ students to get to know each other and discuss issues going on around campus that are relevant to the experiences of being 2SLGBTQIA+. Weekly meetings may also discuss current events, LGBTQ history, or culture. Student-focused meetings are facilitated by UMR staff and the 2SLGBTQIA+ community.
Please contact Betsy Bateman with additional questions.
