Service, Impact, Innovation and Collaboration Awards
Outstanding Service Award
Outstanding Service Award (OSA)
The Outstanding Service Award was established in 2013 to recognize faculty and staff members who have provided exceptional service to UMR. One faculty member and one staff member are chosen annually to receive this campus recognition award.

Selection Process:
The Awards Selection Group of four, composed of two staff and two faculty members appointed by the Center for Learning Innovation and Staff Assembly Chairs (after nominations close), chooses the winner of the OSA based on the criteria below.
Nominee:
The nominee must be current UMR faculty or staff who has worked at UMR for at least one year (prior to May 1) and has not received the award in the last five years. Nominee positions excluded are: Chancellor, Vice Chancellor(s), Associate Vice Chancellor, Assistant Vice Chancellor and Senior Advisor(s) to the Chancellor.
Nominator:
Must be current UMR faculty or staff. Nominators are encouraged to share their nomination with their nominee and should be aware that nomination forms will be provided to the winning recipients.
Criteria:
Address the following criteria (150 - 300 words per category). Candidates for the OSA will be chosen based on the criteria listed below.
- Job performance and competence
The candidate is an outstanding employee, performing job duties above and beyond job expectations and upholding UMR Grounding Values. Supervisor will be notified of nomination and may be consulted if the committee has questions. - Collaborative spirit and helping attitude
The candidate enhances communication between units with open collaboration. The candidate is approachable, receptive, helpful, encouraging and communicative. This may be demonstrated with service on committees or in other ways. - Creative and innovative ideas
The candidate suggests innovative or different ideas, which resulted in increased unit efficiency and effectiveness. Ideas contributed to excellent service to constituents.

Raptor Impact Award
Raptor Impact Award (RIA)
The Raptor Impact Award was established in 2023 to recognize an individual member of UMR faculty and staff who went above and beyond expectations for a student or student group through undergraduate research support, mentoring, professional and career development, community engagement, student advocacy, organizing student events or other exceptional service to the students of UMR. One faculty or staff member will be chosen annually to receive this campus recognition award.

The nominee must be current UMR faculty or staff who has worked at UMR for at least one year (prior to May 1) and has not received the award in the last five years. Nominee positions excluded are: Chancellor, Vice Chancellor(s), Associate Vice Chancellor, Assistant Vice Chancellor and Senior Advisor(s) to the Chancellor.

- Impact on students
The candidate went above and beyond expectations in working with students or a student group and demonstrated UMR Grounding Values in their interactions with students. - Effective communication and helping attitude
The candidate demonstrates highly effective interactions with students, including respectful communication, approachability, helpfulness and encouragement. - Creative and innovative ideas
The candidate suggests innovative or different ideas, which resulted in new or improved ways to serve UMR students.

Outstanding Innovation Award
Outstanding Innovation Award (OIA)
The Outstanding Innovation Award was established in 2023 to recognize a team at UMR who moved a significant innovation forward at UMR, in alignment with the UMR Vision and Centering Aspirations.

The Awards Selection Group of four, composed of two staff and two faculty members appointed by the Center for Learning Innovation and Staff Assembly Chairs (after nominations close), chooses the winner of the OIA based on the criteria below.

The nominee must be a team of at least three which includes UMR faculty and/or staff and may also include students and/or a community partner. The team may comprise members of a formal unit or an informal, cross-unit group.
Nominator:
Must be current UMR faculty or staff. Nominators are encouraged to share their nomination with their nominee and should be aware that nomination forms will be provided to the winning recipients.
Criteria:
Address the following criteria (150 - 300 words per category). A team for the OIA will be chosen based on the criteria listed below.
- Habits of Interaction: The nominated team and each of its members consistently demonstrate respectful habits of interaction that foster collaboration, including mutual accountability, trust, empathetic listening, constructive conflict management, creative problem solving and all of the UMR Grounding Values.
- Innovation or Optimization: The nominated team and each of its members worked together to advance a UMR Centering Aspiration by:
- Generating or implementing a new idea and/or
- Creatively optimizing an existing unique excellence or evidence-based best practice.

The Outstanding Collaboration Award was established in 2023 to recognize a team at UMR who are consistently doing great work in alignment with the UMR Vision and Centering Aspirations.
