The next IFALC event takes place Thursday and Friday, August 6–7, 2026.
The International Forum on Active Learning in Classrooms will be held at the University of Minnesota Rochester, a campus dedicated to innovation in higher education. Located in the heart of Med City, the University of Minnesota Rochester is empowering graduates to solve the grand health challenges of the 21st century. Most conference events for the Forum will take place on the University of Minnesota Rochester campus.
International Forum on Active Learning in Classrooms (IFALC)
Hosted by the University of Minnesota since 2011, IFALC (EYE-falc) is a biennial event that brings together higher education educators, instructional designers, technologists and academic leaders from across international institutions to share ideas about active learning innovation. At IFALC, participants:
- Share successful evidence-based (broadly construed) practices that enrich active learning experiences for a diversity of students and instructors.
- Examine common challenges impacting effective implementation of active learning as well as plan a path for their resolution.
- Build and deepen networks with colleagues and industry partners to advance space design and utilization.
These practices are in service to support increased inclusion, accessibility, equity, engagement and meaningful student learning as well as institutional and instructional support for active learning practitioners.
