Room Lottery (Returning Students Only)

Only returning students who complete the housing application and pay the fee by the February 28 priority deadline are eligible to participate in the room lottery.

  • First-Year & Transfer Students: You do not participate in the lottery. You will be manually assigned to a room after the June 1 housing application deadline.

Time slots (Returning Students): Assignments are based on application date. The earlier you submit your application, the earlier your room selection time slot will be.

It is in your best interest to do your "homework" before your time slot begins. Please review the Room Lottery Guide for 2026-2027 for full details on how to coordinate with roommates and secure your room.

Living Learning Communities

Living Learning Communities (LLCs): All incoming first-year students are automatically assigned to a Living Learning Community as part of their housing assignment.

How to Select Your LLC: You will be asked to rank your top 10 community preferences directly inside the housing Application.

Before you apply: We strongly recommend reviewing the available communities and their specific requirements (some have linked courses!) so you are ready to rank them when you open the application.

Explore Living Learning Communities & Requirements.

Gender Open Housing

Safe, meaningful and supportive housing

Gender Open Housing is open to all students and its purpose is to create a meaningful living environment that best meets the needs of all of our students. Gender Open Housing is an option that allows a student to live with someone of any gender identity. This is not an option for students in intimate relationships. There is no additional cost to live in a gender open room and students will only be assigned to a gender open room if they select this option in the housing application.

Housing Accommodations

Please review the Housing Accommodations Guide.

Summer Housing

  • The Summer 2026 Housing Application will be open on eRezLife from February 16 - April 15, 2026.
  • Current UMR students are encouraged to review the Summer 2026 Info Sheet to learn more about their summer housing, dining and recreation options.

eRezLife

eRezLife is a web-based platform used by the Office of Residential Life to manage on-campus housing. Both prospective and current students can log into eRezLife using their University single sign-on credentials.

Late/Incomplete Applications

Individuals that apply for housing after the deadline or fail to complete a step by the deadline will be placed on a waitlist and will receive their housing assignment later than those who apply by the deadline.

Housing Cancellations and Contract Releases

Please remember that the Housing Contract is binding for the entire academic year (both fall and spring semesters). Moving out of your room does not automatically cancel your financial obligation.

If you are withdrawing from the University or requesting a release from your contract for other reasons, you must submit a Housing Contract Release Request form, found on eRezLife.

Please see UMR’s Housing and Meal Plan Cancellation & Refund Schedule for additional information.

Move-In & Move-Out

Fall 2026 Move-In Dates

  • First-Year Students: August 30, 2026
  • Transfer and Returning Students: September 3, 2026

Note: Specific arrival times, parking instructions and check-in locations will be sent to your student email later in the summer.

Move-Out & Departures: If you are moving out (whether mid-semester or at the end of the year), you must follow proper checkout procedures to avoid improper checkout fees.

Requirement: You must schedule a checkout time with your Resident Assistant (RA) at least 48 hours in advance of your departure.
