University of Minnesota Rochester Scholarship Opportunities

Incoming first-year students must complete their application for admission and Passion Statement by December 1 to be considered for the following scholarships:

  • Chancellor's Scholarships - covers tuition, room and board
  • Faculty Scholarships - covers tuition
  • Passion Scholarships - amounts vary
  • Mayo Clinic Invest in Success (MCIIS) - $5,000 renewable

​​All students regardless of date of application are automatically considered for the following scholarships:

  • Academic Achievement Scholarship - $1,000 - $3,000
  • Bachelor of Science in Health Professions - amounts vary
  • UPromise - amounts vary (FAFSA required)

UMR Scholarship Application

All admitted students are invited to complete the supplemental UMR Scholarship Application. This application is available throughout the application cycle. Log into your application portal and complete the application by March 1, 2026.

Scholarship Timeline:

  • August 1 - Application for admission opens
  • December 1 - Deadline for maximum scholarship consideration and Early Assurance programs
  • Mid-December - Students are notified if they've been selected to participate in UMR Scholarship Day
  • January 5 - UMR Scholarship Day RSVP deadline
  • February 7 - UMR Scholarship Day
  • Late February - Students are notified of any UMR Scholarship Day awards
  • March 1 - UMR Scholarship Application Deadline. UMR Scholarship Application awards may be offered up to May 1
  • May 1 - Deadline to accept offer of admission and submit a non-refundable enrollment deposit of $100

UMR Scholarship Day

Students must complete their application for admission and their Passion Statement by December 1 to be considered for UMR Scholarship Day. Scholarship finalists are invited to interview and participate in this annual February event for incoming first-year students. Students will have the opportunity to meet UMR faculty and staff and get to know current and incoming students. The day is a combination of interviews and presentations including a campus tour for those who have not yet been to UMR.

Academic Achievement Scholarships

All students admitted to UMR are considered for an Academic Achievement Scholarship. The scholarship is based on each student’s unweighted GPA at the point of admission.

Academic Achievement Scholarships are established at the point of admission and cannot be increased. A student may not request additional aid if their GPA increased between the point of admission and matriculation.

Chancellor's Scholarships

Two Chancellor’s Scholarships are awarded each year to students who participate in UMR Scholarship Day. Chancellor’s Scholarships are valued at full tuition and fees, room and board up to eight semesters. Recipients are selected by the committee following UMR Scholarship Day interviews.

Note: Early Assurance Nursing students are not considered for this scholarship because they are officially classified as University of Minnesota Twin Cities nursing students beginning their second year. 

Faculty Scholarships

Five Faculty Scholarships are awarded each year to students who participate in UMR Scholarship Day. Faculty Scholarships are valued at full tuition up to eight semesters. Recipients are selected by the committee following UMR Scholarship Day interviews.

Note: Early Assurance Nursing students are not considered for this scholarship because they are officially classified as University of Minnesota Twin Cities nursing students beginning their second year.

Passion Scholarships

Students applying to UMR who complete the Passion Statement on the application will automatically be considered for UMR Scholarship Day. Passion scholarships are awarded in varying amounts. Recipients are selected by the committee following UMR Scholarship Day interviews.

Current Student Scholarships

Limited institutional financial aid funds are available for each academic year to assist returning students. The Continuing Student Scholarship application will open in the spring semester.

These funds:

  • Will be awarded for the subsequent academic year
  • Are one-time awards
  • Will be awarded to eligible second-, third- or fourth-year status students, in good academic standing and enrolled full-time (taking 12 credits or more)
  • Exceptions to the full-time requirement may be considered for fourth-year students in their last semester and need fewer than 12 credits to graduate

Raptor Research Funds

Students presenting research or attending conferences may request funds to assist with travel expenses.

External Scholarships

Students are encouraged to explore and apply for local, regional and national scholarships from external providers.
