Incoming first-year students must complete their application for admissions by December 1 and submit a Passion for Health Care essay to be considered for the following scholarships:
- Chancellor's Scholarships: covers tuition, room and board
- Faculty Scholarships: covers tuition
- Passion Scholarships: amounts vary
- Mayo Clinic Invest in Success (MCIIS): $5,000 renewable
Admitted students who complete the Passion for Health Care essay will be considered for additional funding.
Guaranteed Merit Scholarships
Admitted students* automatically receive a guaranteed, renewable merit award based on their GPA.

UMR Scholarship Day
Students must complete their application for admissions by December 1 as well as their Passion for Health Care essay to be considered for UMR Scholarship Day. Scholarship finalists are invited to interview and participate in this annual February event for incoming first-year students. Students will have the opportunity to meet faculty and staff and get to know current and incoming students. The day is a combination of interviews and presentations including a campus tour for those who have not yet been to campus.

Scholarship Details
Chancellor's Scholarships
Two Chancellor’s Scholarships are awarded each year to students who participate in UMR Scholarship Day. Chancellor’s Scholarships are valued at full tuition and fees, room and board up to eight semesters. Recipients are selected by the committee following UMR Scholarship Day interviews.
Note: Early Assurance Nursing students are not considered for this scholarship because they are officially classified as University of Minnesota Twin Cities nursing students beginning their second year.
Faculty Scholarships
Five Faculty Scholarships are awarded each year to students who participate in UMR Scholarship Day. Faculty Scholarships are valued at full tuition up to eight semesters. Recipients are selected by the committee following UMR Scholarship Day interviews.
Note: Early Assurance Nursing students are not considered for this scholarship because they are officially classified as University of Minnesota Twin Cities nursing students beginning their second year.
Passion Scholarships
Students applying to UMN Rochester who complete the Passion for Health Care essay on the application will automatically be considered for UMR Scholarship Day. Passion scholarships are awarded in varying amounts. Recipients are selected by the Scholarship Committee following UMR Scholarship Day interviews.
Mayo Clinic Invest in Success
The Mayo Clinic Invest In Success Scholars program provides annual four-year scholarships to a recruited cohort of students who demonstrate financial need. These scholarships support these students' journeys toward health science degrees and senior Capstone experiences that equip them to address the rapidly evolving world of health care.
In addition to the scholarship, students in the program are offered in-depth experiences at Mayo Clinic, including:
- Career exploration events with behind-the-scenes tours and visits
- Mentorship programs
- Internship opportunities
- Work study experiences
Promise Programs
Admitted University of Minnesota undergraduate students who are Minnesota residents and who complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) prior to enrolling will automatically be considered for a Promise Program scholarship based on financial need. Please note that international students are not eligible for need-based scholarships. More information can be found on the Promise Programs webpage.

Students are encouraged to explore and apply for local, regional and national scholarships from external providers. Current Student Aid
Current Student Scholarships
Limited institutional financial aid funds are available for each academic year to assist returning students.
These funds:
- Will be awarded for the subsequent academic year
- Are one-time awards
- Will be awarded to eligible second-, third- or fourth-year status students, in good academic standing and enrolled full-time (taking 12 credits or more)
- Exceptions to the full-time requirement may be considered for fourth-year students in their last semester and need fewer than 12 credits to graduate

Raptor Research Funds
Students presenting research or attending conferences may request funds to assist with travel expenses.
