Health CORE is a place to belong and a community to call home. Health CORE Scholars Day is an opportunity to demonstrate your commitment to the empowerment of others through your aspirations to become a change-maker within the UMR community and beyond. The Health CORE Living Learning Community
The Health CORE (Community of Respect and Empowerment) Community enhances community and belonging while equipping students with the leadership and intercultural skills needed to succeed as health care leaders. Health CORE supports student success while cultivating students' growth into ethical, resilient and resourceful servant-leaders.
The Health CORE LLC is a Living Learning Community with a four-year scholarship component. Participating students must meet the following requirements:
Academic Progress: Develop skills in learning strategies to set goals with a growth mindset and create effective self-management plans.
Personal Growth: Actively pursue knowledge and skills that build self-awareness, motivation, resilience, intercultural competency, and lifelong learning through participation in cultural activities.
Campus Engagement: Use campus support services and, when appropriate, participate in opportunities like academic research, internships, study abroad, or the national student exchange program.
Personal Responsibility: Take accountability for personal choices and actions.
Community Service: Complete and document 10 hours of community service each semester.
Meetings: Attend monthly Health CORE meetings.
Retreats: Attend both a fall and a spring retreat each year.
Residency: Live in a campus residence facility for the first two years.

Event Preparation
Attire
Health CORE Scholars Day is a special event that celebrates the accomplishments of admitted scholars. Attendees are encouraged to wear business casual attire, such as slacks, dress shirts, blouses, dresses, or other professional clothing. We understand that not everyone may have these items, so we welcome students to dress comfortably and confidently in clothing that makes them feel their best.
If you opted into the campus tour, we encourage you to bring comfortable footwear for after the closing comments.
Student Breakout Activities
During Health CORE Scholars Day, you will participate in two scenario-based group exercises. In each exercise, you’ll be divided into small groups of seven or fewer scholars and presented with a hypothetical situation. Together, you will analyze the scenarios, discuss possible solutions, make decisions, and develop a plan of action.
These exercises are designed to simulate the complexities of professional settings, allowing facilitators to observe how you approach problem-solving, communicate your ideas, and collaborate as a team. They will remain observers throughout the discussions, leaving it up to you and your group to keep the conversation moving forward.
These exercises are an opportunity to showcase your critical thinking, teamwork, and decision-making skills in a dynamic and engaging way.

FAFSA Completion/Financial Aid

When filling out the FAFSA, the application will require you to enter the school code. Each University of Minnesota campus has its own federal school code. For Twin Cities and Rochester students, the school code is 003969.
